Wings

You tell me they love me
you tell me they see
they provide for my safety
and then they beat me

The tears they flowed freely
the years piled up
rebellion it festered,
overflowed  young man's cup

don't smile, they'll see you
don't make noise they'll know
they might wanna grab you
then hit you some more.

They don't give me answers
they don't give me truth
they don't help with homework
just booze and abuse

Why would you love me
but hurt me like this
a belt is a weapon
you don't use your fist

don't smile, they'll see you
don't make noise they'll know
they might wanna grab you
then hit you some more.

abusers are cowards,
they prey on the weak
they know of the problem
don't dare turn your cheek

Finally, the fortress has a weakness exposed
the time to  leave is here, a problem imposed
the  problem is simple, just run, baby run

A brother, long beaten, no longer in fear
he takes him a shotgun, and points it right here

right here at the space, between my eyes
to pull the trigger, he tries and he tries

He spares me, I'm grateful
I still choose to run,
I'll never forget, staring IN that shotgun
